R.A Kartini

What came first to your mind when you hear about R.A Kartini? I bet some of you would think about that R.A Kartini is the woman that fight for Woman’s right, but the struggle goes beyond that. And this is her story. R.A Kartini was born in 21 April 1879 in Central Java. She was born in an aristocratic Javanese family. She attend Dutch language primary school and she want to expand her knowledge by attending another school but that option is not available to her and other girls. In the 19th century, girls are seen as slave. They are not allowed to leave the house. Their job is to cook, clean, and please their husband. Kartini sees that as a problem and started to write a letter. Because Kartini could speak Dutch, at home she began to study alone and wrote letters to friends from the Netherlands. One of them is Rosa Abendanon who supports him a lot. From European books, newspapers and magazines, Kartini was interested in the progress of European women's thinking. His desire arose to promote indigenous women, because he saw that indigenous women were at a low social status. In Kartini's letters written her thoughts about social conditions at that time, especially about the condition of indigenous women. Most of her letters contain complaints and complaints, especially regarding the culture in Java which is seen as an obstacle to women's progress. She wants woman to have the freedom to gain knowledge and study. Kartini's letters also contained her hopes to get help from outside. In an introduction to Estelle "Stella" Zeehandelaar, Kartini revealed a desire to be like young Europeans. He described the suffering of Javanese women due to the confinement of adat, namely not being able to be free to sit in school, to be secluded, married to unidentified men, and to be willing to be combined. Kartini's letters reveal a lot about the obstacles that must be faced when aspiring to become a more advanced Javanese woman. Despite having a father who is considered advanced because he has sent his daughters to school even though only until the age of 12, still the door to get there is closed. Kartini really loved her father, but it turned out that love for the father also eventually became a big obstacle in realizing the ideals. The father in the letter was also expressed so much in love with Kartini. He was said to have finally allowed Kartini to learn to become a teacher in Betawi, even though he had not previously allowed Kartini to continue studying in the Netherlands or to enter medical school in Betawi.
After reading her story, there is a lot of thing that can we learn from her story like be a helpful and a bravewoman.
